We really enjoyed shooting for you and your family. We were shocked at the amount of food and refreshments. You really went the extra mile for us. We enjoyed it so much, we spent more time there than expected. It took us a couple hours to get caught back up to our schedule. We really enjoy shooting up in that area. See you next year! Thanks!!! I have been following since 1985, never understanding why it consumed me so. I have since learned its in my blood. I first took my children when they were 5 years old and they continue with me today. I looked so forward to hosting a shoot, we planned a gathering, invited friends and family to our home for a new years eve party. <br />The men played cards and the women prepared food for the shooters and we all watched the ball drop. WELL I have to tell you it was the longest, most miserable News Years I have spent in many years, needless to say there will be no party at the Sam and Lisa Houser household next year. All Night as I excused myself to the porch to smoke I heard the muskets in the distance and it was aweful knowing I couldn't leave my guest to join the shooters. (although I did mention to my husband that I would be glad to ride around and see if I could locate the fellas so we could have a better idea when to put the biscuits in the oven. That didn't go over at all, so I was back to wondering who was following, who was shooting, and who all would retire the night before reaching Peeler Road.)Anyway about 3:15 a.m. the phone rang and my daughter said "We're at Hulls" and I knew it was about show time. We popped the last biscuits in the oven and started the gravy. I yelled for everyone to grab a cake or a basket or something, just get your hands full they're on the way. Thirty minutes later we saw the lights topping the hills the flashers flashing and the u-hauls adorned with Christmas lights and I knew they were here. All our kids, family ands friends with horns and hats ran out screaming and blowing there horns to greet the shooters as they arrived. My misery was gone and I knew why I was in the presence of my revered shooters which is exactly where I will be next year. I will without a doubt bring 2009 in with the ring of muskets firing at 12:00. I'll make my preparations for the 3:45 shoot earlier in the day. Any and all are welcome to attend the shoot At my house and be assured there will be hot food and drink a plenty, but there will be NO PARTY at 1680 Peeler Road. Thank you so much Cherryville New Years Shooters for allowing my family to take part in your tradition. God Bless!

Comment on Welcome to the new Cherryville New Year Shooters Blog!!

Basically the guns are loaded way more than the standard load. The guns are positioned to avoid injury due to the&nbsp;extreme recoil.

Comment on Welcome to the new Cherryville New Year Shooters Blog!!

Saw your 2007 video after readng abt the shooters in the Greensboro News and Record. Really fun and interesting to see a fascinating tradition carried on. Was curious about why the guns are held down and to the side when being shot ... Are the loads too big for the guns?

Comment on Welcome to the new Cherryville New Year Shooters Blog!!

We are always asked to shoot for people. We do add new locations as necessary. It depends who you are, were you live and how it fits into our current route.
